Why KOMAINU?
Komainu (狛犬), often called lion-dogs in English, are statue pairs of lion-like creatures either guarding the entrance or the honden, or inner shrine of many Japanese Shinto shrines or kept inside the inner shrine itself, where they are not visible to the public. They can sometimes be found also at Buddhist temples, nobility residences or even private homes.
Meant to ward off evil spirits, Komainu statues usually are almost identical, but one has the mouth open, the other closed and has a symbolic meaning.
The open mouth is pronouncing the first letter of the sanskrit alphabet, which is pronounced "A", while the closed one is uttering the last letter, which is pronounced "UM" to represent the beginning and the end of all things.
Together they form the sound Aum, ॐ a syllable sacred in several religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. The syllable is often found at the beginning and the end of chapters in the Vedas.
ॐ
We just felt that "this was THE right name for our upcoming litter" because so many things came together - lion-dogs, divine, vedic, cosmic, protective, super positive energy what comes out of it!
Even we thought it was serendipity, everything was just as it was meant to be....

Why FILA and THEMBA?
Matching a big number of dogs from both Pedigrees is somehow something we did once already with pairing Harra (daughter to Fila) with Maddox (cousin to Themba) and we got exceptional offspring. So with pairing of these two bloodlines we got amazing outcome again.
We are extremely proud to have such a number of famous dogs and winners in the pedigree of this litter. Mr.Masai, Titicaca, Tusani Big Ben, Mr.Brown, Great Gatsby and others (vice-world winners, champions, multichampions and blood tracking champions) and we are having all -
Beautiful exteriours, excellent movers and dogs with great working abilities.
With this genetics, we are sure that we will get high quality progeny with good health and nice temperament that love to work.
Themba is an exceptional Ridgeback. His true combination of power and elegance simply radiates his entire appearance.
He is well constructed, has strong bones and has fluid movement followed by power and great reach and drive typical for Ridgebacks. His dark pigment of a coat follows maybe the most beautiful shiny hair type we have ever seen. Themba is also amazing working Ridgeback and for him, "working" is a winning concept. This dog does not need a candy for any task. He just wants to work and this is in his nature. There is no anxiety or lack of agression in his temperament at all and his huge curiosity you can read in his beautiful expression. You just have to love this male. Fila is a very strong bitch with a beautiful pronounced forechest and very strong bones. She has slightly lighter pigment and has beautiful feminine head. She is a bitch whose intelligence can be read in expression. She is an observer. Through observation, she thinks, and acts. She has incredible vibe and she is connecting with you on some other level than other dogs. Fila is not much exhibited at shows because logistically it was extremely difficult to create an opportunity for more frequent dogshows, but she is a really nice representative of the breed. |
