RESPONSIBLE BREEDING
Health, quality and selection
As active members of FCI and Croatian kennel club and registered reputable breeders, our goal is to breed beautiful and healthy Ridgebacks.
We do careful selection of healthy genetically tested dogs (all tested for hereditary diseases in Laboklin - Germany).
Our dogs are x-rayed and rated by Faculty of Veterinary Medicine University of Zagreb.
All our dogs passed Breeding exam and have good temperament.
We are investigating and following bloodlines all over the world in order to get the best possible quality of dogs with proving that the parents of our litters physically and mentally sound.
Breeding is never ending process and we are working hard on upgrading our knowledge and breeding skills in order to achieve our goals. We aim high and with some luck we are doing the best as we can for our loving breed.

Socialization
A“Socialization” means introducing the dog to a range of people and scenarios, so they develop a well-rounded view of the world.
From when they are collected at the age of 8-9 weeks, to six months of age is the “formative” time – things they learn in this period will stay with them for the rest of their life, and will hugely reduce behavioural issues later on.
This is why from an early age, we systematically work on the socialization of puppies.
We introduce them to the world around them, work on getting to know different sounds materials, shapes, objects, gunshots, animals, people so they may develop their agility, motor skills, independent thinking and we encourage their intelligence through setting various tasks and obstacles in front of them on the playground we create especially for them.

The part of our property goes into the forest so we walk our babies with their mum to show them that the world is much bigger than the surroundings of the house they are used to :)
We prepare puppies for life in new families and immediately before the handover, we do the Volhard Aptitude test - way to test behavioral tendencies and predict what a puppy will be like as an adult.
In some way, with this test we confirm what we already know. We observe puppies and they behaviour on a daily basis and more or less already know each individual.
Based on that we choose the ideal family for each dog so they may have harmonious coexistence and happy life with their owners.
Dominant or shy puppy are NO GO for beginners.
Puppies are exploring their natural environment and are in permanent contact with other members of the pack.
Older dogs teach them and correct patterns of unwanted behaviour of the puppies, but also encourage and motivate them. So this is kind of a super team work. We find this very important for later communication with other dogs which puppies will meet in their later life.
The approach is specific because we approach to each individual puppy, but also to the litter in whole and then we work on the relationship of the litter to the pack of dogs living in our kennel.
Through this stimulation, various forms of behaviour occurs, and their character can be clearly seen from early days. By setting clear rules of behaviour from day one, whether we do it or the bitch who raises them, (you will be surprised if you could see how bitch teaches and correct puppies) we work hard on making a good behavioural base for our future puppy owners.
We find this very important because this is a "strong base" which puppy owners will upgrade by themselves later.

We have started to cut your diamond, but you have to continue with socialization so your dog beome a brilliant!
The more unique situations a puppy is exposed to when young, the better “adjusted” it will be as adult dog.

Gunshot socializing
Turn the sound ON!
Many pets are in indescribable stress during the holidays due to firecrackers and fireworks. There are cases where dogs literally died of fear or fled to their owners because of a firecracker thrown nearby. That's why in our kennel we work to make our puppies familiar with such sounds and that it means nothing to them :)
Strong maternal instinct
It is of immense importance to us that our bitches are good mothers and have a strong maternal instinct. We have few generations of bitches in the Neomele kennel (Ada, Fila and Harra) and they all help each other when babies are around. They are supporting each other, taking a part in teaching and rising puppies and share all duties. Sometimes even other bitch gets the milk and feed the puppies from the bitch which is having a litter. How magical nature is! We are proud to say that all our bitches have maternal instinct which we find very important for the breeding and for our bloodline.
The importance of the pack for the puppy
It is a very important for puppies to grow up within the pack. Adult dogs take a big role as educators and protectors if there is a need for protecting them. Through this interaction there is a lower possibility that puppies will later become dominant or aggressive to other dogs. This is why we find very important that puppies learn to respect adult dogs as well they understand hierarchy and who is the leader of the pack whom they follow and learn from.
In their early days they start to understand relation between "us" and the pack leader who follows (like all other adult dogs from our pack) our commands so later in life it will be easy to accept the human as their true leader.

Ethic approach
Our bitches are having litters only after age of 2 years, and never have been mated after their 7th birthday.
Mostly there is a pause of 2 years between their litters so they may recover nicely and get back their balance.
We never let our bitches to have more than 2 litters in life except in the cases when the bitch had a small litter. Then we could consider the third one. Please note that our dogs are not birth machines and we are not a Ridgeback factory.
For us breeding is a passion, and our dogs are our biggest love and our best company.
