  1. My life will probably last for 10 to 15 years. Every parting from you is going to be painful for me. Keep that in mind before you get me.
  2. Give me time to understand what is it that you want from me.
  3. Show me your trust. It is essential for my well-being.
  4. Don't be mad at me for a long time and don't punish me by limiting my freedom of movement. You have your job, your fun and your friends. I only have you.
  5. Talk to me sometimes. Although I can't understand your words, I can understand your voice.
  6. Be aware that in whatever way you behave towards me, I will never forget it.
  7. Please, don't hit me, because I can't hit back. But I can bite and claw, which is something I really don't want to do.
  8. Before you scold me for refusing to co-operate or for being stubborn and lazy, remember to wonder if there is something wrong – maybe I am not getting the right food or I have stayed too long in the sun or perhaps my heart is growing older and weaker.
  9. Take care of me when I grow old. You will grow old yourself one day.
  10. Hold out by my side when the times get rough. Don't say "I can't watch this" or "Let it happen in my absence". It will be easier for me if you are there.  Remember that I love you.
